The 2022 Rivian R1S Launch Edition is a special, limited-production version of the all-electric R1S SUV, distinguished by unique features and equipment not found on standard models. It was the first edition of the R1S to be produced and was offered with specific features and options that were not available later.
Previously, Rivian offered a Launch Edition trim, though it was limited to just a few hundred models that sold out before the R1S ever went on sale.
Initially, the R1S came standard with a quad-motor setup (one powering each wheel, giving it all-wheel drive) paired with a 135-kWh battery pack (835 horsepower, 908 lb-ft) that Rivian is calling the ''Large pack.'' It has an EPA rating of 316 miles, though Edmunds saw 330 miles in their real-world EV range testing.
The R1S Launch Edition is known for its impressive off-road capabilities, thanks to its high ground clearance, air suspension, and robust underbody protection.
The 2022 Rivian R1S Launch Edition has a maximum ground clearance of 15 inches. This is achieved through its adjustable air suspension, which allows the vehicle height to be customized. The suspension can also be lowered for easier entry and exit or loading cargo. The R1S also offers a ''Camp Mode'' that levels the vehicle on uneven terrain.
This one also has 22'' Sport Dark wheels, featuring a multi-spoke design with a dark finish. They are designed for road use, offering extended range due to ultra-low rolling resistance tires.
