The Kona Electric uses a 64-kWh battery pack to power a 150-kW electric motor rated to deliver 201 horsepower and 291 lb-ft. All Kona Electrics are front-wheel-drive and have an EPA-estimated range of 258 miles on a full charge.
The EPA estimates the Kona Electric will consume 27 kilowatt-hours of electricity for every 100 miles driven, but in Edmunds' testing the Kona was far more efficient, using only 22.3 kWh per 100 miles. It's not the most efficient vehicle in the class, but it's close to it!
The Kona comes with a 7.2-kW onboard charger that can be fully charged from an empty battery in about nine-and-a-half hours from a proper 240-volt wall unit. It also has a listed DC fast-charging capability of up to 100 kW, though in Edmunds' testing it never peaked higher than around 75 kW. It takes one hour & 15 minutes at 440V.
With its odometer now reading 6,824, it is STILL COVERED under the balance of the factory BUMPER-TO-BUMPER warranty until May 2026 or 60,000 miles (whichever occurs first)!
