The 2023 Subaru Solterra received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) TOP SAFETY PICK+ award!
It was one of several Subaru vehicles to receive the award in 2023, including the Ascent and Outback SUVs. The Solterra also received the TOP SAFETY PICK+ award in 2024.
Subaru has received more IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards than any other brand since 2013.
A 72.8-kWh battery pack powers two electric motors that produce a total of 215 horsepower and 249 lb-ft of torque. The Solterra is all-wheel-drive and Subaru projects a range of 228 miles on a full charge (the EPA has not released its estimate as of this writing).
The Solterra takes more than a day to charge using a 140-volt outlet, but Level 2 and Level 3 charging is markedly quicker. A 240-volt Level 2 charging port will fully juice up the Solterra's battery overnight (around 9 hours), and a Level 3 (DC fast charging) station can bring the Solterra's battery from a 10% to an 80% charge in as little as 35 minutes, according to Subaru.
With its odometer now hovering around 20,292, it is STILL COVERED under the balance of the factory BUMPER-TO-BUMPER warranty until August 2026 or 36,000 miles (whichever occurs first)! Additionally, this electric SUV will be covered by the remainder of the POWERTRAIN warranty until 2028 or 60,000 miles!
The EPA rates the 2024 Solterra Premium trim at 114 MPG-equivalent in city driving and 94 MPGe on the highway. It can travel as far as 228 miles.
Standard advanced safety features include:
- Forward collision mitigation (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
- Adaptive cruise control (adjusts speed to maintain a constant distance between the vehicle and the car in front)
- Blind-Spot monitor (alerts you if a vehicle in the next lane over is in your blind spot)
- Automatic reverse braking (applies the brakes automatically to avoid an imminent collision with an object behind the vehicle)
- Lane keeping assist (makes minor steering corrections to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane)
