The VMI Northstar conversion for the 2017 Sienna uses a power-operated, in-floor ramp that slides out from under the floor, offering a 30-inch width and 1,000-lb capacity. It features automatic kneeling, a 14-inch lowered floor for increased headroom, and removable front seats to allow wheelchair users to ride in the front, activated via the factory key fob. The right extends from the right side of the van.
Key Features and Functionality:
- In-Floor Ramp: The ramp stays hidden under the floor, leaving the interior clear when not in use, which reduces dirt buildup and increases interior space.
- Operation: The system is activated by the remote key fob or interior buttons, which automatically open the side door, lower (kneel) the suspension for a shallower angle, and deploy the ramp.
- Accessibility: The 2017 model includes a lowered floor providing enhanced headroom for taller users, and a 360-degree maneuverability space inside.
- Safety: Features include a manual override for the ramp in case of power failure and a wheelchair securement system.
